How it is used

The dress is put on the idol before the pooja begins. Place the statue in the pooja room, light the diya and the incense sticks, and proceed as your family tradition prescribes. Ganesh Chaturthi in 2026 falls on Monday 14 September, with visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi.

About the materials

The idol and diya are made from panchagavya — cow dung, curd, ghee, milk and urine — and are fully biodegradable. Because they are handmade from natural material, colour, shape, finish and weight vary from piece to piece. The idol dissolves completely in water, releasing no plaster or paint into the tank or lake, and the diya burns down without leaving residue.

What is panchagavya?
The five products of the cow — dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee — long used together in Hindu ritual. Here they are moulded and dried into the idol and the diya, with nothing synthetic added.

Does the idol really dissolve?
Yes. Placed in water it breaks down completely, unlike plaster of Paris, which does not and which carries paint into the water. This is the main reason households choose panchagavya for visarjan.

Can I do the visarjan at home?
Many families immerse the idol in a bucket or drum at home and then use the water for plants. Because the material is entirely organic, this is straightforward.

How far ahead should I order?
Two weeks before the festival. Delivery takes 4–8 working days and festival-season courier volumes are heavy.

How should I store it until the day?
Keep the box closed, dry and away from damp. Panchagavya items absorb moisture and should not be stored in a humid place.
